What Your Result Means

How This Calculator Works

You select a country and service type, then enter a bill amount. The tool looks up the customary tip percentage from a built-in etiquette table covering 15 countries and four service categories. It multiplies the bill by that rate and adds the result to the bill. Rates reflect general local customs — they are not legal requirements and may vary by city or establishment.

Quick Questions

Why does Japan show 0% tip?

In Japan, tipping is generally not practiced and can sometimes be considered rude. Service charges are typically included in the price, and excellent service is considered part of the job.

Are these rates legally required?

No. Tipping rates are social customs, not legal obligations. Some countries include a mandatory service charge on the bill, but an additional tip is always at your discretion.

What if my country isn't listed?

The calculator covers 15 of the most-visited countries. For others, a general rule is to research local customs before your trip or ask your hotel concierge for guidance.

Should I tip in the local currency or my own?

Tip in the local currency whenever possible. If you pay by card, adding the tip to the card total is usually fine in countries where tipping is expected.
