How This Calculator Works

You enter a departure time, date, and time zone offset, plus the flight duration and the arrival time zone offset. The tool converts your departure to UTC by subtracting the departure offset, adds the flight duration in minutes, then converts to the arrival local time by adding the arrival offset. Day boundaries and the date line are handled by JavaScript's Date arithmetic. Daylight saving time is not applied automatically — use the UTC offset that matches the DST state on your travel date.

Quick Questions

Should I use standard time or daylight saving time offsets?

Use whichever offset applies on your actual travel date. For example, New York is UTC−5 in winter (EST) and UTC−4 in summer (EDT). Check before your trip if you're unsure.

Why does my westbound flight arrive "before" it departs?

Flying west means you're chasing the sun and gaining hours. A flight leaving Tokyo at 6 PM JST and lasting 10 hours might land in San Francisco at 11 AM the same calendar day because of the 17-hour time difference.

Does this include layover time?

No. Enter only the actual flight duration (wheels-up to wheels-down). For connecting flights, run the calculator once per leg or add total airborne time plus layover time together.

How accurate is this compared to airline schedules?

Airlines add taxi time (typically 15–30 minutes each end) and buffer for ATC routing. This calculator gives you the mathematical arrival; the published schedule may differ by up to an hour.
