What Your Result Means

How This Calculator Works

You enter your baby's age in months and the cost per diaper. The tool looks up a usage curve that starts at roughly 10 diapers per day for newborns and declines to about 2 per day by age 3. It multiplies daily usage by your cost to get the monthly bill, then sums month by month through age 36 to project the total cost and total diaper count remaining.

Quick Questions

How many diapers does a newborn really use per day?

Most newborns go through 8–12 diapers per day in the first few weeks. This calculator uses 10 as a middle estimate. Very small or premature babies may use slightly fewer; breastfed newborns sometimes use more.

Are cloth diapers cheaper in the long run?

Generally yes. A full cloth diaper setup typically costs $300–$800 upfront, while disposables average $2,000–$3,000 total through potty training. However, cloth adds laundry costs and more hands-on time.

When do most children potty train?

Most children begin showing readiness between 18 and 24 months, with full daytime training typically complete between 2 and 3 years. This calculator uses 36 months as the endpoint, which is a common benchmark.

Does the calculator include wipes and other supplies?

No. This estimate covers diapers only. Wipes, diaper cream, changing pads, and disposal bags typically add another 15–25% to your total diapering budget.
